On December 15, 2010, Asia Muhammad attended the TPC Summerlin 3.0 final clinic of the fall season. Teresa Bolen, Cheryl Vaughn, Raime Cendoma, Liz Abatangelo, Heidi Holley and Katharine Rawling participated in drills and games with the Las Vegas rising tennis star. Team coach, Ken Shioi, photographed the event. One of the highlights of the get-together was the opportunity Asia gave each TPC player to try to return three of her hard hit serves. Asia now has six new fans who will follow her career with special interest.

This October, breast Cancer awareness month, Las Vegas ladies decked from head to toe in all pink and armed with their tennis rackets joined the fight against cancer. It was the 3rd annual American Cancer Society Ladies Tennis Event at Darling Tennis Center.
Three years ago Stevie Tegano, the event creator, began driving for the 'Road to Recovery" program which provides rides for patients to and from their chemo or radiation appointments. While driving these patients she began to think of ways she too could help. Being a part of a strong community tennis group, Stevie reached out to her tennis friends for support.

The Story of Dillon Berkabile

The "RUDY" Foundation has announced Dillon Berkabile as the recipient of this year's "RUDY" Award. Dillon Berkabile was nominated and selected as the only American tennis player to receive the "RUDY" Award in 2010. This Award is given to the rare child who has defeated all the odds to make amazing things happen for their own life, much like the real "RUDY" in the blockbuster movie. Berkabile has excelled as a student, athlete and leader through hard work, persistence and character.

In the organizations history this is one of the largest college placements years ever. 9 children that played tennis locally have been given scholarships for athletics and or academics for their 2010 freshman year. 7 of the 9 will play division 1 college tennis, with the others receiving scholarships for their academics. All of these students had a high grade point average and many of them were among the most sought after student athletes in the country.

Patrick Kawka from Henderson is now ranked #19 in the United States and could have picked among many opportunities.

The Winners

Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, arguably the greatest rivalry in tennis history, waged a fierce battle in the 2010 ATP World Tour Awards, sharing honors in two awards they hotly contested. The awards were announced today in London, one day ahead of the start of the ATP World Tour Finals.

Nadal, who had already locked up the No. 1 award after an incredible season in which he won three Grand Slam titles, beat out Federer for the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship award, as voted by his fellow players. Federer had won the award the past six years. But Federer edged Nadal in a fans-voted category which he has always held in high esteem, the Fans' Favorite Singles Player.

American twins and defending World Tour Doubles Champions, Bob and Mike Bryan, who were honored for finishing ATP World Tour No. 1 Doubles Team for a record sixth time in eight years, also again won the Fans' Favorite Doubles Team for the sixth straight year with 44 per cent of votes. Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic got 14 per cent of votes, with Rohan Bopanna of India and Aisam Ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan third with 12 per cent.

Anyone who knows me well understands I have always been very strict when it comes to on court and mostly off court behavior. I have never seen tennis as an avenue to the "pros," nor do I care about wins and losses based on scores in a game. As far as I am concerned the real game is "life" and tennis is nothing more then a vehicle, a proving ground, to teach all of us how to master the principles that play out in our every day life; How to work hard, how to stay calm, how to embrace , love and make the most out of adversity. Our willingness to eat right, be honest, choose right, let go of frustration and a plethora of other elements to excellence ultimately adds up to our collective happiness and peace of mind.To me it is all about striving to be a "pro" at life.
