This October, breast Cancer awareness month, Las Vegas ladies decked from head to toe in all pink and armed with their tennis rackets joined the fight against cancer. It was the 3rd annual American Cancer Society Ladies Tennis Event at Darling Tennis Center.
Three years ago Stevie Tegano, the event creator, began driving for the 'Road to Recovery" program which provides rides for patients to and from their chemo or radiation appointments. While driving these patients she began to think of ways she too could help. Being a part of a strong community tennis group, Stevie reached out to her tennis friends for support.

The event begins with 3 hours of round-robin tennis where ladies play competitive 4.0-4.5 tennis but also have fun! Then a large raffle follows. Raffle donations are gathered year long and many of the ladies donate their time and talents to give home made, one-of- a-kind gifts. "There are such nice ladies out there. People are quite generous when it's for a good cause," said Tegano.

Every year she has had more people join and volunteer to make the event a success. This year 52 players, 3 helpers and a 50 item auction raised close to $5000. "It was the greatest tennis event! The ladies were so much fun, I met new people and the raffle prizes were top-notch. It's inspiring to have a leader pave the way so everyone can play a sport we love while donating to a charity that saves lives," said Hilliary Heard Executive Director of the Marty Hennessy Jr. Tennis Foundation.
