Mylan WTT Championships kicks off in Las Vegas

Co-hosted by Nevada Tennis Association and 12 time grand slam singles champion Billie Jean King, the Green Dot Ball National Championships took place at the UNLV tennis courts last month.

In a fight for equal opportunity for women, King has made it a point for men and women to be equal not only in sports, but in life. Whether it’s the same amount of prize money among both singles champions at Wimbledon or young boys and girls being able to play on the same court as each other, King strives to make tennis more exciting and fair for the upcoming generation.

In her opening speech before action began, Delaine Mast, National Program Director for World Team Tennis (WTT), asked the junior players how many had not played mixed doubles before. The majority of kids raised their hands. ?Boys and girls don’t learn to play together like they used to,? Mast said. ?It’s about what’s the right thing to do for kids, to get along and getting them to be part of a team [and] getting them to cheer each other on.?
