Article: NCLR National Convention
Written by Wendy Harrison, President SNYTF

Southern Nevada Youth Tennis Foundation (SNYTF) wrapped up an incredible 3 day tennis event for the National Council of La Raza’s (NCLR) National Convention at Mandalay Bay Event Center July 7th thru 9th. The Family Expo was free and open to the public. SNYTF Academy kids, board members, and staff provided hundreds of youth daily bi-lingual introduction classes by our pro’s George Cantu, Rich Luong, Scott Schneider, Academy graduate Elvia and SNYTF’s founder, Sandra Rose.
SNYTF’s booth , inside the Health & Fitness Pavilion, was decorated with a colorful, energy filled mini tennis court that provided kids ages 3 years and up beginner lessons followed by prizes, mentoring, celebrity autographs & photo’s, and raffle drawings for 4 tickets to the US Open Arthur Ashe Kids Day. Celebrity guests jumped in on the action and entertained the youngsters and adults with a little magic from Seth Grabel (America’s Got Talent), sparkling beauty from Miss Sarah Lopez (Ms. Senortia Mexico US 2011), fitness & motivational speakers Eric Simmons (Sports Club) and Joe Cortez (Boxing Hall of Fame Inductee & SNYTF Board Member). There was some BIG music from Ms. Linda Griner (Motown ?Original?Hall of Fame) and Pierre Jovan (PJ Recording Studio Artist) to round off the festivities. SNYTF’s President, Wendy Harrison, would like to thank ALL the sponsors, celebrities, volunteers, mentors, kids, families and the event coordinator, Papote Varet (Varet & Co), for putting the Southern Nevada Youth Tennis Foundation’s message out to the public?..KIDS FIRST.
Quotes of the event: Dr. Sidney Franklin’s original quote of years ago of ?Keep kids on the court and out of court? will forever be imbedded with SNYTF’s Executive Director as he continues to see his words come to fruition. ?It’s refreshing to see hundreds of youths from all backgrounds pick up a racket for the first time and see them smile.? ?This event was a great success,? Joe Cortez echoes his remarks along with a personal message to the youth??stay physically fit, eat healthy, most importantly is your education and bring in good grades for your school. He finishes by saying,? NO drugs, NO gangs, NO smoking and parents need to lead by example.?
